BioTrek is the Science Outreach Program of the Biotechnology Center of UW-Madison and of UW-Extension. Sky's the Limit

UW-Plateville's Sky's the Limit programs introduce young women to the exciting and world-changing careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). The weekend events will be held on the UW-Platteville campus, with the participants staying in the Cooper Living and Learning Center at the UW-Platteville Pioneer Farm.
Dreaming of the Sky is a program for 7th - 8th grade girls and is February 24-26, 2012.
Exploring the Sky is a program for 9th and 10th grade girls and is April 27-29, 2012.

The Women in EMS Program at UW-Platteville was created to inform students, parents, and educators on the value of gender diversity as it relates to the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) fields. The program promotes a supportive community to these individuals through activities such as advising, mentoring, and networking.

Great Lakes Maritime Teacher Institute (Michigan Technological University)
Explore the historical, economical and environmental aspects of shipping on the Great Lakes while enjoying the special ambience of Door County, Wisconsin. Participants will tour port facilities and the Neville Public Museum in Green Bay, the Wisconsin Maritime Museum and S.S. Badger in Manitowoc, several lighthouses in Door County, and an active shipyard in Sturgeon Bay.
Investigate invasive species, monitor water quality, take a guided excursion of Sturgeon Bay ship canal, delve into maritime history and learn about maritime careers. Participants will gain new knowledge, skills, and resources that can be integrated into social studies, science, language arts, and math classes.

Monthly, from October to April, students come to campus on Saturday mornings to explore a STEM topic. Taught by UW-L professors with college students assisting, these 4th through 8th graders study the world of fractals and marshes, plankton and robots, computer generated designs and crime labs, and a whole lot more.
The purpose of this program is to:
• generate youth interest in STEM topics, future academic study and careers
• introduce families to campus and higher education
• provide a short and easy way for new faculty to be involved with CEE
• provide a feeder program for other CEE youth programs

UW-Milwaukee Report: Overview of Some STEM ProgrammingIn the spirit of sharing information to bring together Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) programming to the overall university system they are working on the following:
1. Building the WATER Generation ROV Competition
High School and UWM undergraduate student teams are challenged to design and build Remotely Operated Underwater Vehicles (ROVs) that function as submarine rescue systems. Student teams participate in the Marine Advanced Technology Education (MATE) Center's International ROV Competition.
2. Lake Sturgeon Bowl
Lake Sturgeon Bowl is a round robin, double-elimination academic tournament that provides a forum for students who excel in math and science. Students receive national recognition for their diligence and talent while broadening their awareness and understanding of the oceans and Great Lakes.
3. JASON Project
The JASON Project is an international science and technology program that focuses on scientists and students doing yearly research expeditions in the field via the Internet and Internet 2. The JASON Project explores research sites found on the Great Lakes Basin and the World's Oceans. Visit the national JASON site here.
4. Summer Field Experiences
Marine Mussel Mystery: Teams of students must mount a week long scientific investigation to search the Milwaukee River, The River Basin, and Lake Michigan to locate both invaders, the zebera and quagga mussels, and determine who ecologically wins. This week long adventure is for upper elementary and middle school students in August.
5. Ocean Odyssey
The Ocean Odyssey recruits under-represented Milwaukee high school students and their teachers to utilize a scaled approach to prepare for the Lake Sturgeon Bowl competition; extend their knowledge of the Great Lakes and Oceans; and provide actual fieldwork on Lake Michigan.
6. College for Kids/College for Teens
College for Kids is an academic enrichment and educational supplement program for children and adolescents with high academic potential, keen subject matter interest and strong motivation or talent.
UW-Oshskosh: Alternative Careers in Teaching (ACT) (Note - this is a professional development opportunity for teachers)
Alternative Careers in Teaching is an exciting teacher licensure program specifically designed for working professionals with a bachelors degree and at least five years of work experience who desire a career teaching secondary level (middle and /or high school) mathematics or science.
ACT! is a cooperative program between the UW Colleges and UW Oshkosh. Successful candidates are licensed by the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction through the University of Wisconsin -Oshkosh College of Education and Human Services.
UW-Platteville introduces the Pioneering Your Future program (PYF). PYF is an exciting day of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) exploration targeted to girls in grades 6-8.
UW-Stout: Science Technology & Engineering Preview Summer Camp for Girls (STEPS for Girls) The Science, Technology and Engineering Preview Summer Camp for Girls (STEPS for Girls) is a one-week summer camp initiated on the campus of the University of Wisconsin-Stout in the summer of 1997. The purpose of STEPS is to introduce young women to career opportunities in engineering, technology, and science and inspire them to prepare for these careers by selection of appropriate math and science courses in middle and high school.
UW-Superior Aquatic Education Programs The American Junior Academy of Science (AJAS) is American's only honor research society for high school scientists! Membership is by invitation only. Each state academy of science chooses premier high school scientists from their state to nominate as AJAS delegates. Usually, the senior scientists in each state academy organize junior academy of science. Under the direction of the junior academy of science, a state—wide scientific research competition is held. The winners of these state-wide competitions are nominated to represent their state at the national AJAS convention.
